Project: Cross-Platform Language Input Optimization
The Challenge:
Students at Traverse City Area Public Schools faced consistent technical barriers when typing in Spanish. Differences between Chromebook, Mac, and PC keyboard layouts made it difficult to input special characters, slowing down writing tasks and distracting from language learning.
The Solution:
I designed and developed an interactive eLearning experience that guides students based on their device. Using a “choose-your-path” approach, learners receive step-by-step support tailored to their specific keyboard and system. The experience was built using UX best practices and a minimalist interface to reduce friction and keep the focus on writing in Spanish, not troubleshooting technology.
The Impact:
Supported 1,000+ K–12 students across multiple device types
Reduced time spent on technical troubleshooting
Increased learner confidence and accuracy in written Spanish
Key Design Principles:
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Ensured all students could access the same outcomes regardless of device
Scaffolding: Provided just-in-time support based on learner needs
Minimalist UI: Reduced cognitive load and kept attention on the task
